Welcome to the Jewish Cultural Mosaic prototype website, an online virtual museum to celebrate and explore Jewish identity and diversity through the examination of world Jewish communities, cultures and folk traditions.
Jewish Cultural Mosaic is a web-based virtual museum that tells the story of the "Little Traditions" of the Jews. Unlike the "Great Tradition" of Judaism which is hallowed in official texts and was basically uniform throughout the Jewish world , the "Little Traditions" were the local variations passed on orally from generation to generation through the family and local community. "Little Traditions" are the glue that has preserved Jews through the ages and throughout the world . Through the real stories of community members, this virtual museum celebrates and illustrates the richness and diversity of the Jewish people- Sephardi, Mizrahi, and Ashkenazi. Text, photographs, graphic illustrations, video and audio illustrate the continuity of these diverse peoples to insure that they are living communities rather then just memories.
